best digital camera for taking indoor high school basketball photos without blur?
I love my Canon PowerShot S3 and it takes great outdoor photos but not inside and not when the subjects are running down a basketball court. I would like to stay within the Canon family of cameras (lessen the learning curve) and can afford $1,000. to $1,200. for a new camera but am unsure where to start or if it is unrealistic to think a camera for that price range will deliver what I want. Thank you!
The best you can do for that much is a used Canon 30D from say keh.com and an 85mm f/1.8 lens. You will have to be on the edge of the court though. You could also get 40D but you might not be able to keep it in that price range. Its still going to be challenging to get good pictures because the dof will be so small at f/1.8 which is probably what you will have to shoot at. You are definitely going to have to shoot in manual mode using RAW files and then touch them up afterwards.
