Why don’t digital reflex camera’s come with a mobile phone function?
Surely this way Minolta and Olympus could beat Nokia and others out of the market, rather than be victimised? Isn’t adding a phone function easier than making a proper camera?
true, but it that a bad thing?

The topic here is marketing. Samsung is the only real mobile phone producer wich experiments all this. For example, its new B600 phone has a 10 megapixel camera. Nokia is well behind with its N95 phone at 5 mpix as its top of the line.
AT the lattest CES there was one unknown Taiwan phone producer with a SLR GSM phone… but only one. but as you can imagine form the direction of all manufacturers, SLR phones are not even a remote priority.
Each year 600+ camera models reach the market, and only /at l;east this year/ 196 are SLRs. People like more the Point and Shoot or subcompacts under $300 than a real SLR with manual modes.
Mobiles in the other hand, are at its best now. In 2006 a BILLION cell phones were shipped. Growing at 28% yearly, why would you care to have a fine camera attached when all that most people do is take a picture at a party or concert_?
Even more, the US is not even current in its phone characteristics… just google DOMOCO, and you will see that phones are no brainers in America. *after more than 4 years finally a US co plans to intriduce it here( You dont buy a Coke, find a sex partner, bet at the horses, check your crops or watch the TV soap in your phone.. you make phone calls, do prehistoric number work, read some alphanumeric news readin, and watch almost frozen video on most mobiles. Smart for US is dumb for them in Asia and Orient. Try just Korea or Japan.. and you will see real communication.
Just try to imagine Olympus (not Konica/Minolta since it went out of photo business and Sony bought it and already has its Alpha DSLR/A100 incorporating its advantages) building facilities, expending in workforce and advertisement, and creating a culture of phones in its organigram…. billions to put at stake, current biz to set aside, and danger…. lots of it…. consumers to be convinced.. mmmm … hard stuff in this era where firing thousands is the most common corporate new….,

Optic Zoom
Most of the digital cameras within the mid-priced range include a 3x/4x lens – the first number refers to the optical zoom with the second number referring to the digital zoom. A few of the lower-end priced cameras have only a digital zoom, but their photos are rather dull and slightly fuzzy. The zoom effect in a digital camera is similar to, yet different, from that of a conventional camera. It brings distant subjects closer.
However, in a digital camera there are two kinds of ‘zooms’. The first is similar to that of a conventional camera and is known as the optical zoom. The second is the digital zoom, and is more interesting. It ’simulates’ optical zoom by enlarging a portion of the image-that is the digital zoom selects a portion of the photograph and blows it up.
The zoom effect should not be confused with photo editing, where an image editing software is used to crop and blow a picture on a computer screen. Cropping a picture can refer to enlarging the main subject, or an area of choice – thereby eliminating the remaining parts. Another misconception associated with digital zoom is that it is very handy in capturing long distance images. Nothing can be more misleading. Optical zoom matters more in a digital camera.
The zoom that should be used for comparing cameras is optical zoom, and not digital zoom or total zoom. A camera’s quality depends upon the value of optical zoom; a camera with higher optical zoom is better than a camera with lower optical zoom. In fact, today the digital camera manufacturers have started using a new term – “total zoom.” This term only confuses the customer for there is nothing like total zoom. At best, it can be used to indicate the fact that a digital camera has both kinds of zoom – optical zoom and digital zoom.
Individuals who previously used the 35mm camera or an APS camera used only optical zoom. This uses the lens to bring the subject of the picture closer. Digital zoom are associated with the digital video cameras.
Many photographers do not really associate digital zoom as “zoom” in the digital cameras, as it only enlarges a portion of the image. In layman’s terms, the camera crops a certain aspect of the image, and then enlarges it back to size which causes a loss in image quality. But what it actually does is replace the image editing for cropping.
Another zoom effect that has been developed recently is the “smart zoom”. This particular zoom maintains the image quality by avoiding interpolation of the image. However, smart zoom works only if you select an image smaller than the full available image size.
Sometimes optical zoom is compared to resolution while buying a digital camera. Nothing can be more absurd. These are two different values and have no common link. Resolution is used to indicate the number of pixels in an image while optical zoom is used to define the lens power. It can neither increase nor decrease the resolution.
There is also a tendency today to disable digital zoom. Some photographers prefer to crop and enlarge an image on a computer screen. They don’t trust the camera to do it for them. This is not a good practice because it reduces the effectiveness of your camera.

How to adjust the optical zoom in camera?
i am new to cameras. i have turned off digital zoom. Now i dont no how to adjust optical zoom? my camera is sony cybershot DSC-S750.
Read the manual, it is there for a reason.
If you lost it, download an electronic version of it, all major manufacturers let you do that.
Everybody needs to read their manual several times.
Read it once, then take some photos. Read it again, and practice what you learned.
Read it again, you’ll understand much more this time, then go experiment.
Go to your local library and get books on photography, you’ll be thankful you did.

in control panel sound and audio properties the volume tab page is gray no information?
emachines, T-series T-2040. Audio tab default says modem, sound playback(modem), hardware tab(does not have device for and audio devices. i have tried all of these things. My dell has in default devices, Soundmax integrated digital audio and sound blaster live 24 bit. i used my cd that came with my dell to install the audio devices on friends pc, but still no luck. also, the is no audio icon to adjust for sound. volume tab in properties is completely gray can not acces.

I own an Optimus Digital Camera 5 Mega Pixels, And my flash stopped working. Can the flash be fixed? I think the bulb inside the built in flash went out. If it can be fixed , would it be expensive? I have 2 camera’s the this has happened to. I need help but dont want to purchase another camera if this can be fixed inexpensively. HELP!
It can be fixed. Take it to an electronics repairer or the manufacturer’s service centre. Now, inexpensively is another story. The cost to fix might be close enough to replacement to make it not worth it. Generally speaking for cameras, if repair costs half as much as replacement it’s not worth it. A camera will never be the same after repaired.
Expect to spend at least $200 on a decent camera and $300 for a good one. The expensive ones usually last longer and do a way better job too.
