Yellow Digital Camera

digital camera problem?

i have a sanyo digital camera (new) all my outdoor pics are great but when i take pics indoors they have a yellow tint to them and they look like crap.there is nothing in the trouble shooting about it i have all the settings where they should be.the flash is set to auto
please help thank you

The issue you have is related to the difference between outside sunlight, and indoor tungsten bulb light.

The sunlight is the reference for the light color because it contains a bit of all the colors, so it looks white to your eyes.

Indoor, all light bulbs use a tungsten filament which when heated up will glow brightly, producing a light colour a lot more yellowish. You don't usually notice it because your eyes and brain vision centre gets used to it, but when looking at pictures, the difference is obvious especially when looking at something that should look white or a specific colour. Using fluorescent tubes produces light a lot whiter than the old bulbs, but it is a Little bit blueish (but less noticeable).

Note that the flash produces a good white colour, so if the flash is selected and actually goes off, it should give you the right colors. However, if you have a lot of indoor light, your flash might not go off, so you would see the yellow color.

Solutions:
a) Force your flash to go off using the flash setting for that (on, always on...).

b) go into manual mode and select white balance adjustment when indoor, so the camera will try to adjust.

c) Adjust the white balance manually yourself, looking at something white on your camera and adjusting until it looks white on your camera CCD.
